The Farm Bill is back in action. Contact your Senators today and let them how important organic agriculture is in the 2007 Farm Bill!
They will take your comments into account as they write the Senate version of the 2007 Farm Bill next week.
The top organic goals in the Farm Bill for the Senate are:
- $25 million/ yr. in mandatory funding for the Organic Agriculture Research and Extension Initiative (OREI).
- $25 million over 5 yrs. for the Organic Certification Cost Share Program.
- Support an Organic Conservation Program to help farmers switch to organic practices with 50% of funding for technical assistance.
- $2 billion in new funding for the Comprehensive Stewardship Initiatives Program (CSIP), which includes the new and improved Conservation Security Program and support for organic practices.
It is now time for YOU to put the pressure on the Senate. Please contact your Senators and urge them to support organic agriculture with the above goals in mind.
