BACK TO STYLE
Danielle Hayes, Contributing Writer

Danielle Hayes is a stay at home mom to one fabulous son Taylor and married to her handsome horse trainer husband. She is passionate about eating clean, working out, riding her horses, and all things fashion. She keeps busy by writing her two blogs Mommimafia and Cowgirlchiconline.  And dreams of someday writing a book inspiring all mom?s to embrace their inner fashionista.

This time of year always seems to inspire me. There is just something about school supplies, new wardrobes, and changing leaves that puts a little extra spring in my step. I can’t help but walk through a store and want to buy gorgeous chunky knitted sweaters, yummy smelling candles, and new datebook to jot down all my upcoming gatherings. This fall in particular seems especially exciting.  Not only does my gorgeous son turn one in November but it seems as if I finally have broken out of that new mommy rut.

Somewhere between 6-9 months (I was on the later part of that scale. Just call me a late bloomer) after the birth of your baby, you may finally find yourself getting back into the groove of things. After months of being the schlumpy-mom-in-yoga-pants-poster -child, that twinge to embrace ones style again rears its gorgeous head. For me, I found myself evolving into an even more glam, put together version of my already chic pre-baby self.  Suddenly, I am drawn to updated twists on classic pieces leaving overly trendy looks to my child free partners in crime.  I love this new incarnation of myself and it seems now that my son has a blooming personality and I am more confident in my role as mommy our social calendar is bulging at the seams. From playdates to community festivals, and let’s not forget upcoming holiday extravaganzas, my wardrobe will definitely getting a work out. Of course the dilemma of being to big (still) for pre-prego clothes and too small (finally) for those after bump pieces, I need some fab go to pieces to bring me back to style.  So what does every mom of baby /toddler need to be the belle of the playground?

Slim cut dark jeans - Easily dressed up or down, they look perfect with a curve hugging cashmere sweater or simple tee. I love, love this style of jean and find myself acquiring a new pair every time I indulge in some retail therapy. They even hide beautifully the remnants of snack and meal time they inevitably seem to make their way everywhere but my son’s mouth.

Two great pairs of shoes - One needs to be a fabulous pair of flats that go with everything and look dressier that your usual go-to cross trainers.  I like something in a patent leather with a buckle detail! The second pair has to be a GORGEOUS pair of heels. Its time girls, we deserve some non-mom shoes.  You know the type; they are the kind of shoes that inspired the mood that got you into the mommy zone.  I found my pair when I least expected it, it was like fate. They simply called to me. Shall I add they are the color of rich merlot, so very sassy, and make me smile every time I put them on? I am even considering wearing them to vacuum. They make me feel that good!  I say wear them at least once a week for a boost whether it’s on date night with the hubby or just to coffee with your munchkin in tow.

A fabulous fall jacket- This is your must have piece if you get nothing else.  Keep it by the door so it’s in arms reach when headed out for errands. It can cover a multitude of fashion sins (you know sweet potato stained tees). I picked a cropped double breasted version with over sized buttons in a cream color.  It dresses up everything I wear and gives me the perfect amount of
extra warmth for the changing season.

Oversized purse that can double as diaper bag- Frankly it gets tiresome packing around two bags and I felt as if my fabulous handbags were being neglected. I decided it was time to double duty.  Nothing says put together mommy like a fab bag!!

Lip stain- Usually I am gloss girl, but seeing I am embracing my new sophisticated look, I picked a lovely conditioning lip stain. I picked a cabernet color (see a theme here, I really love wine!!) It lives in the front pocket of my bag so it’s never out of reach when I need it. One swipe and a pair of sunglasses I look glam even when I am lacking sleep and patience.

Whatever your style; preppy, trendista, or sophisticated, it’s time to get out of those yoga pants, brush your hair, and put on some mascara. Being a mommy doesn’t mean your style has to take the back burner. Haven’t you heard it’s chic to be a mom? All the cool kids are doing it!

Stay Pretty!
