ECO-FRIENDLY HALLOWEEN CRAFTS

You and your family will have a spooky-good-time making these fun Halloween crafts which utlize recycled materials and are good for the environment too!

Creepy Crawly Spider Bracelet

Kids' spidey senses will be tingling with anticipation at making these creepy crawly spider bracelets. A super easy craft to make at home or in the classroom, it’s a fun idea for insect themes as well!
What you'll need:

    * Recycled black construction paper
    * Wiggle eyes
    * White scrap paper
(for "fangs")
    * Scissors
    * Tape
    * Recycled yellow construction paper
    * White crayon
    * Glue
    * Pencil

How to make it:

   1. Fold black construction paper in half.
   2. Along folded edge, lay child's hand palm down (midway through palm) and trace fingers with white crayon. Cut out the outline of the fingers.
   3. Unfold and you’ll have a complete image of a spider with eight legs. Turn the spider over and, with the pencil, roll the legs around it – this makes the legs curl under and gives a more creepy, crawly effect.
   4. Cut a one inch strip of black paper from the remaining scraps and form it into a circle for the bracelet. At the appropriate length, tape the ends together.
   5. Attach the bracelet to the underside of the spider using tape or glue.
   6. Glue the wiggle eyes and "fangs" to the spider’s head.
   7. Cut a small diamond shape from the yellow construction paper and glue to the spider’s back.
   8. Place the child’s wrist through the bracelet.

Trick or Treat T-Shirt

Whether it’s a T-shirt or a sweatshirt, this design is adorable and all your child’s friends will want one! This simple idea is easy to put together but looks like you bought it at the store.
What you'll need:

    * Organic cotton t-shirt
    * Candy corn foam stamp
    * Alphabet foam stamps
    * Fabric paint: black, yellow, orange and white
    * Orange 3D fabric paint
    * Waxed paper
    * Cutting board, thick cardboard or cookie sheet
      Note: You can substitute acrylic paint and textile medium for fabric paint.

How to make it:

   1. Be sure that T-shirt has been washed and dried before decorating. Do not use fabric softener.
   2. Place a cutting board, a thick piece of cardboard or a cookie sheet to act as a divider inside the shirt. Lay the shirt flat, then insert a sheet of waxed paper between it and the divider. This will keep any paint seepage from getting through to the other side of the shirt and will also protect your cutting board.
   3. When applying paint to foam stamps, add a generous amount by dabbing paint on with a paintbrush. Don’t use too much that it drips, but apply more than just a swipe.
   4. Use alphabet stamps and black paint to write out the words “TRICK OR TREAT” across the front of the shirt, “TRICK” at the top left, “OR” in the middle, and “TREAT” to the lower right, using the photo as a guide.
   5. Use candy corn foam stamps with white, yellow and orange paint to add the candy designs. Again, use the photo as your guide or get creative and place them wherever you like.
   6. Use orange 3D fabric paint to pipe a border around each candy corn.
   7. Set shirt aside in a safe place and allow to dry overnight.
   8. Once completely dry, remove the cutting board and the waxed paper from inside the shirt.

   7. Cut a small diamond shape from the yellow construction paper and glue to the spider’s back.
   8. Place the child’s wrist through the bracelet.

Egg Cup Treat Holders

This Halloween, make a fun recycled craft that holds yummy treats. Make your own color combinations for a festive and ghoulish decoration.

    * Cardboard egg cups
    * Acrylic paint in Halloween colors
    * Tissue paper in Halloween colors
    * Scissors
    * Glue stick
    * Medium wiggle eyes
    * White craft glue
    * Scissors

How to make it:

   1. Trim egg cups with scissors to give them a neat edge.
   2. Cut 3” squares from tissue paper.
   3. Paint egg cups in various Halloween colors and let dry.
   4. Use glue stick to put a dab of glue in the center of a tissue paper square. Glue side facing downward gently press center of tissue paper into center of the inside of the egg cup.
   5. Glue two wiggle eyes on each cup.
   6. Fill with treats.

Tips:

    * Try black with red or purple for a vampire, green with black for Frankenstein, orange and yellow for pumpkins, and so on.
    * To give these cups handles, cut skinny chenille stems into thirds and carefully poke a hole in each side of the cup then thread the chenille through.
    * Save egg cartons for fun craft projects such as this!
