TASTYBABY® ORGANIC INFANT CEREALS – Important facts to know

Contains DHA & ARA fatty acids

WHY IT MATTERS:

Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA) is the most abundant Omega-3 fatty acid in the brain and retina.  DHA is widely considered important for infant brain & eye development (DHA deficiency is associated with cognitive decline).  Tastybaby contains DHA from algae (not fish), extracted without the use of hexane.

Tastybaby® takes strides to ensure that all our products contain the highest quality ingredients.  We also make every effort to be as transparent as possible, sharing our sourcing & other important information with our consumers.  We believe that parents have the right (and the responsibility) to be aware of what they are feeding their children, where it comes from & how it is handled, every step of the way.

The DHA we use to fortify Tastybaby® Organic Infant Cereals comes from Martek, the leading manufacturer of DHA.  Dozens of respected premium and organic brands* use Martek’s DHA, including more than 70% of infant formula manufacturers** worldwide.  There have been quite a few "scares" regarding various forms of DHA, including those derived from large fish such as tuna, and/or those extracted using a chemical called Hexane.  Rest assured that ours falls into neither category.  The DHA we use is derived from plants (algae), not fish, and it is extracted entirely WITHOUT the use of Hexane.

*  Brands include Horizon Organic, ZenSoy, Sunkist, Yoplait, PediaSure, Challenge Dairy, Cabot, Oroweat, Mission, Kellogg’s & many more

**  These brands include Earth’s Best Organic, Enfamil, Similac, Nestle Good Start & others

Arachidonic Acid (ARA) is an Omega-6 fatty acid and is involved in early neurological development.  According to the US National Institute of Child Health & Human Development, infants (18 mos) given ARA for 17 weeks demonstrated significant improvements in intelligence, as measured by the Mental Development Index (MDI). This effect is further enhanced by the simultaneous supplementation of DHA.

Contains Prebiotics (FOS)

WHY IT MATTERS:

Fructooligosaccharide (FOS) is a Prebiotic that stimulates the growth or activity of microflora in the large intestine, stimulating “good bacteria” in the digestive system & increasing the overall gastrointestinal tract health.  FOS also helps protect against the development of allergies.

Convenient, re-sealable & BPA-free packaging

WHY IT MATTERS:

Bisphenol A (BPA) is an organic compound used primarily to make plastics.  Suspected of being hazardous to humans since the 1930s, BPA has recently been highlighted in the media after several governments issued reports about its safety.  Tastybaby® packaging contains no BPA & is printed with planet-friendly veggie inks.

Made with Whole Grains

WHY IT MATTERS:

“Whole Grain” may only be used as a description when a grain contains all of its natural parts (the bran, the germ & the endosperm). Foods that are not whole grain have been processed (refined) and no longer contain the bran & germ. Whole grains contain more fiber & are significantly healthier for babies (and adults) than refined grains.  The terms can be confusing, however, since some foods such as rice, oatmeal & barley cereals can be both “whole grain” and “single grain” as they contain only one “type” of grain.  “Multigrain” cereals contain more than one type of grain.

Entirely grown, milled , manufactured & packaged in the USA

WHY IT MATTERS:

Recent reports of food products & the materials they are packaged that imported from abroad have shed new light on sub-par operating standards in many foreign countries – particularly those made in China.  Tainted baby formula, children’s toys & pet foods have caused the FDA and the US Consumer Products Safety Commission to increase their vigilance over the safety of imported products.

“Clumping” can be a serious a choking hazard – our flakes are fluffier & more soluble than leading brands

WHY IT MATTERS:

Tastybaby® flakes are more soluble than leading brands, which means they dissolve more easily in liquids & are more easily incorporated into purées and other solid foods. “Clumping,” which occurs when less soluble flakes stick together and do not dissolve in liquid can be a serious choking hazard.  In 2007, Gerber Products Co. recalled all packages of its Organic Rice and Organic Oatmeal cereals for clumping.

Specially formulated for different times of day

WHY IT MATTERS:

Most infant cereal manufacturers offer several varieties & flavors, but Tastybaby® is the only organic baby cereal formulated for use at different times of day, allowing parents to offer babies optimal nutrition at the appropriate time.

Tasty Day™ Organic oatmeal for morning & daytime has soluble fiber to provide steady energy during baby's waking hours.
Tasty Dreams™ Organic Brown Rice for naptime & evening is gluten-free & has high-quality protein for relaxation & to help build muscles during sleep. Tasty Grains™ Organic Multi-Grain for all-day use is a well-balanced multi-grain formula for optimal nturition at any time of the day.
