TASTY TALK: FATHER'S DAY WITH KENNY

1. What does "family" mean to you?
My family is my number one priority.  When they are happy I am happy

2. What's your ideal day with your family?
All four of us skiing or playing golf -- all doing something we all love to do at the same time.  We find activities like that are the most fun.  We also play tennis together every night when we are all together and we have the perfect doubles foursome.

3. Protecting the environment is important to you.  How do you teach your boys to be planet-friendly?
We try to instill in the boys to be aware of their environment every chance we have, and to make sure that they are aware NOT waste.  Turn off the water when brushing their teeth, turn off lights and unplug electronics when they are done using them. Just basic awareness, which I believe, can make a huge difference.  If everyone was aware we would be so much better off.

4. What's is like now that your children are getting older and yo have a teenager in the house?
It is simultaneously the hardest and best thing ever.  If you have done your job correctly they are prepared to start their independence as real citizens of this planet.  It is the goal of a parent but so hard not to have the same control you had when they were young.

5. You are a world-famous musician, and your wife, Lynde Benson is a talented photographer.  Are the arts important in your home?
The arts are very big in our family.  The boys are both great on their respective instruments, guitar and piano.

6. You play music all over the world.  How did you decide to settle your family in Malibu?
My wife grew up in LA and I grew up in Seattle.  We tried Seattle for a bit, but the rain was too much for my wife.  We still love Seattle but Malibu in unbeatable as far as weather and lifestyle and community.  We have the most beautiful backyard in the world for our children -- it?s called the Pacific Ocean.

7. What keeps you up at night?
I hear songs in my head quite literally. 

8. What kinds of tunes do your bys listen to?
Currently my teenager is in to Heavy Metal.  However, I took him to a Mega Death concert and, to my surprise, those musicians had ?chops!? It turns out they ended up being big Jazz fans and from that concert my son has been turned on to Jazz!! The fact that a lot of the metal fans at the concert wanted my autograph certainly raised my ?value? to my son!

9. On what way are you ever "Wasty"?  (ie: NOT hip, green, planet-friendly)
I guess my car.  I'm still waiting for a really safe hybrid to hit the market

10. What is the tastiest thing about your wife & kids?
Every moment with my family is tasty no matter what that moment is -- good or bad.
