Q:  Do your infant cereals contain fish oil?

A: All of our infant cereals use a DHA derived from algae – no fish involved!  This means that our infant cereals are totally vegetarian.  Even more, the algae is harvested in an FDA inspected facility and does not carry any of the risks for ocean-born pollutants that fish can.  The brand of DHA is called Life’s DHA and is currently the only DHA that is FDA approved for use in U.S. infant formulas.

How they make the DHA from algae: The entire process is done in a specialized, FDA inspected facility. They begin with the initial algae cell culture, which are grown in large fermentors.  Once full grown, the algae are harvested and, using a specialized process that does not involve any of the dangerous chemicals often used in other processes, a highly purified oil rich in DHA is extracted.
