For us there’s nothing tastier than a truly Tasty Dad, and that’s exactly what football legend Jason Sehorn is! This month, he agreed to share his thoughts with Tastybaby. Read on to learn about what it’s like for this tough guy to live in “an estrogen zone,” his (lack of!) cooking skills and being married to one foxy lady …

TASTY TALK: JASON SEHORN
1. What does “family” mean to you?
Family is the one thing that takes precedent over everything else. It takes a backseat to nothing and there are no limits on the sacrifices I would make for my family.
2. You’re a real “guy’s guy” living in a house full of females. What’s that like for you? Do you ever toss a football in the backyard with your daughters?
I’ve grown accustomed to the fact that pink will be everywhere as will the range of emotions, so it’s taught me to be more understanding of melt-downs and tears and to realize that as the only male in the house, my role isn’t necessarily to always fix the problem, but to always be there to pick them up and give them a hug and let them know that I’m there for them. My own range of emotions is hot or cold – there isn’t a lot in between – but for the girls, there’s a lot more in between to be aware of.
As for sports, they love to kick the soccer ball and throw things – anything. As for football, I pray my daughters don’t want anything to do with the sport ...
3. Both you & Angie are in the public eye. Is that ever challenging when you’re out with the kids? Do your children realize they have parents who are well known?
When we’re out with our kids we do our best to blend in so our kids have no idea what’s going on. It’s only challenging when people don’t have a grasp on personal space. As With my family I tend to get a little protective over that space when people do things out of the norm Our kids have no idea who we are other than Mom and Dad, as they’ve never seen paparazzi and we do our best to keep them from that as they’re a bit young to have to deal with that. I wouldn’t know how to explain that process to a 2 year-old and a 3 year-old.
4. Do you consider yourself to be “planet friendly?” How do you teach your kids to care for the environment?
I’ve become much more planet friendly over the last five years, and we’re continually explaining to our oldest daughter not only how to recycle but why we recycle, what’s good for the Earth and what isn’t. I’m not sure she really understands but she knows where to put everything. She’s also a little confused on who this “Earth Lady” is and why she’s been so poorly mistreated that we have to do all this stuff to help her, but she’s willing.
5. You choose to live pretty far from the “hub” of Hollywood. Why is that & what’s it like?
We just want as normal a life as we can provide for our kids, and we don’t really think the “hub” of Hollywood is that normal. We wanted to provide a neighborhood that our kids can run around in and that we can feel safe with them running around in. The decisions we make are all about what’s best for our kids.
6. Is food a big part of your family life? What about organics? Do you ever cook? If so, what’s your specialty?
This is another area of concern – not just the type of food we eat, but where it came from and how it was made. These are the things we’re most concerned with regards to the food we eat. I’m not a cook. I can barbeque but I can’t cook, and I can really only barbeque what was prepared – I don’t prepare the food, I just grill it. I can clean up with the best of them and I find that much easier than trying to cook, so the understanding around our house is that Angie can cook and I can clean.
7. What keeps you up at night?
Nothing. When I get horizontal, I’m out, and I don’t worry as that has yet to solve anything for me ...
8. Describe an ideal day with your wife and kids.
First of all, the day can’t start until 9:00 so we all sleep in, then we take them to something that has animals as they love animals. The San Diego Zoo, Sea World, the Monterey Bay Aquarium, the Museum of Natural History – anything that can stimulate their minds and show them what’s out there in the world. As long as I feel like I’ve given them something new each day – they’re little sponges and I don’t want them to have to soak up the same stuff everyday. The perfect days are the days we all just hang out together. I guess it wouldn’t hurt if we were someplace warm, tropical, had a beach and someone else cooking the meals.
9. What trait do you hope your children DON’T inherit from you?
My lack of emotion (which so far isn’t a problem) and the fact that I’m fairly antisocial.
10. What’s the tastiest thing about your wife and kids?
For my kids it’s their smiles. You know a kid is happy when she’s smiling, and as a father I strive to ensure their happiness. For my wife, it’s just her – it doesn’t get any better than that.
