From the very beginning, we have had a soft spot for Stella McCartney, so it came as a big surprise (an enormously flattering one, that is!) when she contacted us to ask whether we would consider hosting her big fall event in LA on her behalf.  Stella is pregnant with her 3rd child, (she and her husband, publisher Alasdhair Willis have a son, Miller and a daughter, Bailey). 

She’s also busy finishing her latest collection and getting ready to launch a brand new line of lingerie, so she simply can’t get away from London right now.  Somehow she heard about Tastybaby and thought we seemed like the kind of girls who stand for the same principles she does. 

It so happens that getting a call from Stella McCartney was a dream come true for us.  From the day we put together our “inspiration board” of people, products, charities and concepts that inspire us, Stella has figured prominently.  On a 1-to-10 scale of all-around tastiness, Stella’s an 11.  All of this mutual admiration lead to planning a fantastic back-to-school event at her flagship store in LA, which we’ll cover in the next edition of Tastybaby.com, so stay tuned!

Rock ‘n Roll Royalty

Ok, she’d probably cringe to hear us call her that, but a fact’s a fact.   Her dad, former Beatle, Sir Paul McCartney needs no introduction.  Her mother, the late Linda McCartney, was one of the greatest supporters and defenders of animal rights we’ve ever seen. 

Stella seems to be the perfect blend of all their qualities, combining her father’s remarkable artistry and creativity with her mother’s commitment to important causes.  It all boils down to passion, which she has in spades.

Fashion Prodigy

Born and raised in London, Stella graduated from Central St. Martin’s, the renowned academy of design.  Her signature of sharp tailoring and confident femininity was a huge hit, and after only two collections, she was appointed Creative Director of Chloe in Paris in 1997.  In 2001, she launched her own fashion house in a joint venture with Gucci Group. 

Today, Stella operates 3 flagship stores: in New York’s Meatpacking District, London‘s Mayfair and LA’s West Hollywood and her clothes and accessories are distributed in over 40 countries.  And we could go on!  She has a successful sports performance collection, “Adidas by Stella McCartney,” has designed a line for Target, multiple fragrances, CARE, a line of organic skincare products and more.

Stella has been awarded the VH1/Vogue Fashion & Music Designer of the Year Award (2000), the Woman of Courage Award (2003), the Glamour Award for best Designer of the Year (2004), the Organic Style Woman of the Year Award (2005) and the Elle Style Award for Best Designer of the Year Award (2007).

Role Model

If there’s one thing we applaud at Tastybaby, it’s business people who accept the mantle of social responsibility.  Sure, she’s known for hanging out with famous friends such as Madonna, Gwyneth Paltrow and Liv Tyler, but above all else, Stella’s values and beliefs are incorporated into her business ethic on every level. 

A lifelong vegetarian, she uses no leather or fur in her designs. Every season, she includes several organic cotton pieces in her line.  Her mother fought staunchly against the maltreatment of animals, and Stella has teamed up with PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) to release a video championing animal rights.
