START TALKING ... THEY WILL LISTEN
- Shannan Swanson, Tastybaby Co-Founder.
Lately it seems all my daughter and I talk about is food! She wants to know everything about what she puts into her body. Does it grow in the ground? Does it grow on a tree? Why is it good for me? Will it make my hair grow? What does it do to my body?
As you probably guessed, I have a 4-year-old! On a daily basis, she has questions abound about just about everything, but food is at the top of the list. She is a girl after my own heart and apples do not fall far from the tree. Luckily, this is a topic in which I have some expertise. The point is … we are talking about eating healthy regularly and she is listening.

The other day we were at Whole Foods, shopping for dinner. I asked her to pick out the vegetable. She went straight over to the artichokes and put them in our shopping cart. There was an older gentleman who was also picking out artichokes for himself, and I could tell he was a bit surprised to see my daughter’s excitement over her selection. He asked her why she loved artichokes, and she replied, “They are full of fiber and make me go potty!” We both laughed, as only a 4-year-old can get away with “potty talk” outside the bathroom.
Liane & I are frequently asked by parents how we get our kids to eat vegetables. Do we put some magic “tasty” dust on them? Do we bribe them with candy? The answer is: we talk to them every chance we get! If telling your kids that “eating asparagus will make their hair grow,” gets them to eat to their veggies … do it!
