ORGANIC BABY

- Ian WInscom Contributing Writer
Last year when I first joined the team here at Boxed Greens, there were 2 women who walked into our offices to find more information about who we were and what we did. Both were young business professionals, each with newborn babies. It was then that I began to really recognize the demographics of our customers. Most people are willing to accept that they fill their bodies with pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, DDT, Dioxin and the myriad chemicals laced throughout our food supply.
I know, sounds sick, huh? But really, look around. It’s not like it’s a big secret anymore about our agriculture practices. Look at the huge lines at any number of fast food joints and you can see that people just don’t care. Sadly, in our society today, whether it is human nature or the nature of our lifestyles, we are a reactionary species rather than proactive and precautionary one. A majority of people tend not to pay close attention to the stress in their lives, the environment around them and the food they consume until they start having health problems and heart attacks, or until the life and health of another person lies in their hands, as is the case with having children.
Originally spearheaded by Trista and Larry (the father & daughter team behind Boxed Greens), the last few months, our focus here at Boxed Greens has been aimed towards school lunch programs. The importance of offering our children fresh, healthy, organic foods is beyond comparison with anything else we do. So, it has been in the back of my head to enter the baby market for a while now. The idea really didn’t come to fruition until Expo West this year when we came across the beautifully eye-catching booth of Tastybaby. Nothing at the Expo got me more excited about pursuing an organic baby line at our shop! It suddenly became my personal focus to find other products at the Expo to build our newly conceived baby section with. Ultimately, that’s how “Organic Baby” at Boxed Greens was created.
I have to admit, the inspiration for entering the baby market comes from those two new mothers who walked into our offices a year ago, the mothers and the grandmother who work here at Boxed Greens as well as all the mothers who want to give their babies the best love & health there is to offer.
