Organic garden roses in a 1950's H & Co. Heinrich Bavarian porcelain vase

THINK ORGANIC

- Ariana Lambert, Contributing Writer

Being the owner of a flower store and as a mother (and of course having one) makes Mother’s Day a super important day for me – one must always spoil these very special ladies!!!  It is scientifically proven that flowers make you feel better – a guaranteed happy recipient – and we know how hard it is to please mom!!!

Finding new inspirations to create beautiful and meaningful Mother's Day arrangements is the key. Using different vintage and antique vases gives me inspiration – whether a 1930's limoges porcelain or a Qing dynasty peeking glass vase. They always call for different flowers and different types of arrangements. I am known for carrying very special  and one-of-a-kind vases and I try to keep something for everyone –  modern, antique, mid-century, country, Italian glass ... they are all  either old, out of production or originals.

I strongly advocate organic flowers, and I suppose in using antiques; I’m also recycling old vessels!

This Mother’s Day is especially significant for me as I am a new mother. It’s been tricky on a personal level to find the balance between work, baby, husband, alone time and a social life.  My son, Livio, is only 8 months old.  He is delicious & huge – off the charts for height! He is very sweet, extremely social & a huge flirt! He never wants to miss the party – and, of course, I think he’s absolutely gorgeous and a complete genius. If I could drop a hint about what I would like to receive for Mother’s Day, I’d have to say 100 mixed peonies … and a little something from Chanel or Hermes would be welcome, too!

Important Reasons to Buy Organic Flowers

1. Organic flowers are more fragrant and natural in appearance than non-organic ones
2. The pesticides used on flowers are significantly more toxic than those used on fruits and vegetables.
3. Toxic chemicals used on flower farms poison groundwater affecting the atmosphere globally.
4. Pesticides and other toxic chemicals used on flowers affect the health of farm workers and florists. Toxic chemicals can spread onto clothes and on the bodies of workers ultimately exposing their children who are much more vulnerable to toxins.
5. Increasing sales of certified organic flowers gives the market notice that more organic flowers need to be grown, which makes more flower farms convert to using organic agricultural methods.
Your support encourages more growers to convert to organic practices and to reduce toxic chemical usage in the world!

Love Thy Mother and Mother Nature Too

You love her, you rely on her, and at times you take her for granted.  She brought
you into this world and sometimes pondered how to take you out.  But she never ruminated
on those ill feelings for too long because you are the reason she is here.  Ask any
mother her proudest contribution to this life and she will quickly and emphatically
reply that her pride is your existence.  Make it matter this year and express your
gratitude and love with a brilliant bunch of organic blooms.  Your Mother -- and
Mother Nature -- will appreciate your attention.
Organic, Green, these are words we hear bandied about today, so much so that they
risk losing their potency.  These should be the only words we use when we talk about
flowers.  Commercial flowers are not always grown with care and responsibility.
Non-organic flowers are grown with harsh chemicals which endanger your loved ones
and the environment.  Beautiful flowers should not be poisonous.  Lily Lodge selects
our blooms from organic growers who retain the essence of flowers, as Mother Nature
intended.
