Perrey Reeves with "Entourage" co-star Jeremy Piven

TASTY TALK: PERREY REEVES

1. We were blown away when we heard that your main residence is in Costa Rica & that your husband lives there full-time ... how utterly un-"Hollywood" of you! How did this come about & why?

My husband, Jeff, and I have a strong interest in health and wellness, specifically through studying and practicing the sciences of yoga, meditation and Ayurveda (India's ancient medical science) over the past 15 years.  While visiting Costa Rica we were overwhelmed with the diverse amount of flora and fauna and felt a strong positive energetic connection to the land and people.  We then  decided to incorporate our personal practices into a live/work situation where we could also share our experiences with like-minded individuals.  The result is Two Rivers, our residence and center for wellness.

2. Tell us a little bit about your day-to-day life in Costa Rica. Do
you ever have culture shock, going back-and-forth between your 2 worlds?

My day to day life in Costa Rica is quite different to my life in Los Angeles.  I rise with the sun and the howls of Howler Monkeys, practice yoga, eat a healthy, organic, homemade meal, read an interesting book either fiction or non-fiction, garden in our vast botanical tropical gardens, hike through the jungle with Jeff and our dog, leisurely swim in the ocean, read some more, have lunch at a local restaurant, walk back through the jungle paths to my off-the-grid home stopping off to swim in a swimming hole in the clear crisp river, relax in my hammock, talk with Jeff, read some more, talk some more, prepare another healthy, organic, homemade meal while looking for river otters, falcons, and Capucchin Monkeys, either swimming, flying, or climbing above or below the array of cascading waterfalls which grace my backyard, take a hot shower in my outdoor solar powered tub during a colorful sunset, practice yoga and/or meditation, read some more, talk some more, or "whatever", and fall asleep around 8pm to the chirping geckos, squeaking bats, and humming  cicadas. Wouldn't you have culture shock leaving this world?

3. Some might see your choice of where you & your husband live as one of sacrifice, with so many fewer "amenities" than we are so used to.  How do you see it?

Well if anyone thinks my life as a sacrifice for a lack of amenities please slowly re-read and visualize the answer to question number two .  Nature provides me with all the amenities I need to de-stress,  re-connect, and rejuvenate.  I grew up without a television, I don't use a computer (although I have just learned to use a blackberry so I can communicate more easily with Jeff while he is in CR and I am working in LA), and I try not to read too many magazines, all of  which I feel keeps the erratic over-stimulation that these produce to a minimum.  While in CR we live on solar power and thus really have a different respect for the use and consumption of energy.  The tropical weather allows us to live outdoors most of the day so there is no real need or want to be distracted through the usual amenities that a lot of people are accustomed or sometimes even addicted to.

4. Tell us a little bit about the food in Costa Rica. How do you grow it, buy it, cook it?

We are fortunate to have access to organic produce at a weekly farmers market in a neighboring village.  We also have over 200 organically grown fruit trees on our property representing over 30 different varieties of tropical fruits.  It is quite difficult to grow vegetables on our property due to the many animals who like to consume them before we can. Although, we were successful in growing tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers as it seems the lizards don't eat the leaves on these plants.

5. You & your husband are avid animal rights activists, which we applaud. Tell us more about your beliefs.

I feel that every defenseless creature has the right to live in an environment that Mother Nature intended for it to thrive in.  Animals cannot speak for themselves (or a at least in a language that most of us can understand) and we humans, being the most intelligent of the animals, need to defend and protect those whose lives are in danger from extinction, subject to abuse, or suffering from degradation of their natural habitat.

6. As you know, Tastybaby has a strong commitment to being as environmentally sensitive as possible. How important is being "Green" to you and what do you do to be planet-friendly?

In today's ever fragile and sensitive Environment, being "Green" is incredibly important and responsible and I applaud Tastybaby for adhering to such ethics.  As for me, aside from the preservation of  our 40 acres in Costa Rica, I always choose environmentally friendly cleaning products, eat organic produce, eat a vegetarian diet, support fair trade practices and their products, encourage carbon-offsetting, use alternative energy, recycle or reuse everything that
can be, and drive a hybrid vehicle.

7. You're developing a spiritual retreat on your property to share the Costa Rica experience with others. Why do you think it's so important for people to have this opportunity?

In the fast paced world most people live in it is necessary to recharge or reboot your system on a regular basis in order to live a more balanced, healthy, and positive life.  To produce real change in the world each one of us needs to start with our "self", which can be described as the body-mind-spirit complex, and treat this "self" as you would want to treat every other living creature on this planet.  By being in the company of like-minded individuals, surrounded by the glory of Mother Nature, and disconnected from one's normal routine habits, guests of ours will have the best opportunity to nourish and replenish themselves on so many levels that the end result of a visit at Two Rivers can only bring contagious positive energy when they return home, a gift truly worth giving..

8. We'll confess: you are on one of our absolute favorite TV shows (our husbands', too!). What's it like playing "Mrs. Ari" & being surrounded by (mostly) guys?  It's a pretty racy show ...  how does that affect you?

Playing Mrs. Ari is a blessing and so enjoyable, not to mention I couldn't ask for a better T.V. husband.  I think for any actor it is the most wonderful experience to be surrounded by talented actors no  matter their gender.  I am fortunate that not only are my co-stars talented but are attractive men as well, each in his own unique way. I never thought of the show as being particularly racy, I guess racy is subjective.

9. Unfortunately, many people generally think of environmentalists, activists & spiritualists as "crunchy" folks who renounce fashion, yet you are one hot, super-chic gal!  How do fashion & style fit into your life & why are they important?

I'm an artist and I love the art of fashion.  When I am in LA I have a different style then when in Costa Rica.  But no matter the location I dress in a way (stylishly of course) that is appropriate
for the situation that I am in which in turn makes me feel most comfortable.  Comfort breeds confidence which helps to be present and being present is what life is all about.

10. And now ... the question we ask everyone: what makes you Tasty?

I am a free ranging, organically fed vegetarian, basted inside and out with healing herbs and spices, high in vitamins and minerals, and scented with a dab of lavender oil.
